Information On The Care And
Raising Of Blue And Gold Macaws
The Blue And Gold
Macaw is the most popular macaw... and for good reason. If
raised properly, the Blue And Gold Macaw will grow up to be an
extremely playful parrot, have great speaking abilities, and will
have less of a tendency to become nippy, or bite, like other species
of Macaws.
But just because
Blue and Gold Macaws are the most friendly species of Macaw,
doesn't mean you should just go out and pick one up from just any
old breeder or pet store. You'll need to make sure you
understand what you're getting yourself into.
Raising a Blue and
Gold Macaw to be a healthy, well adjusted member of your family is
going to take some work. Don't get me wrong, it can be fun
work, but work none the less. You'll need to make sure you're
ready and willing to put time into training your Blue and Gold
Macaw basic tasks, skills and behaviors.
The #1 Thing You Must Teach
Your Blue And Gold Macaw...
The list of things a
Blue and Gold Macaw needs to learn could be endless, but here's the
most important thing Blue and Gold Macaws should ever be taught and
exposed to:
-
Early
Socializing Skills -- Just like it's a well known fact that
puppies need to be socialized with other dogs at an early age to
avoid becoming aggressive, fearful or territorial of new objects
things and people... the same should be done with Blue and
Gold Macaws (or any parrot for that matter)
And while Blue and Gold Macaws are one of the better species
of Macaw to adapt to new situations, you'll make life with
your Blue and Gold much easier if you introduce him to a variety
of different situations at an early stage in life.
The key is to slowly introduce as many new situations to your
parrot as possible on a daily basis, and to gradually
stretch your Blue and Gold Macaw's comfort zone to allow him to
finally become comfortable in practically every situation
possible
And don't think that it's just exposing to people or situations.
It extends to introducing your parot to a wide variety of parrot
toys too. I've seen parrots that were literally afraid to
play with new toys because their owners didn't introduce them to
a variety of toys when they were young. Here's
where I bought the latest batch of toys for my Blue and Gold
Macaw.
This toy is perfect for my Blue and Gold because it has an
interchangeable metal center that I can constantly refill with
different parts to change up his environment.
If you make sure to do
things like this at an early age, you'll be rewarded later in life with a Blue and Gold Macaw that is
willing to let anyone hold, handle or pet him, and thus
avoid a TON of behavior problems.
