How To
Keep Your
Scarlet Macaw From Being
A Pain In The A@@
The Scarlet Macaw
is probably considered to be the most beautiful of all the Macaws.
But just like that gorgeous high school cheerleader, who thinks her
beauty can make up for her snoody personality, the Scarlet Macaw can
tend to become nasty if not handled properly.
This causes a huge
problem, with thousands of Scarlet Macaws being purchased
every year simply because of how beautiful they are.
Yet unless their
owners use clicker training, or other positive training techniques
(like the ones becoming popular with dogs) the average Scarlet
Macaw owner will get rid of their bird after it reaches sexual
maturity -- the screaming, and aggressive nipping become more
than they had bargained for.
But If You Follow These Steps You'll
Find That
Scarlet Macaws Can Be Playful And Loving!
Step #1 -- Start researching
Scarlet Macaw
Training Techniques like the ones Chet Womach teaches over at
Birdtricks.com. I've seen dozens and dozens of Scarlet Macaw
owners with out of control birds take Chet's course and have a
completely transformed Scarlet Macaw on their hands. After
going through a course like Chet's Scarlet Macaws can learn to
perform tricks, come when called, stop biting, talk more and even
put a cork into that boisterous screaming that can get so out of
hand.
Step #2 -- Get your Scarlet Macaw on a consistent
training diet. Don Bice originally exposed me to the power
of training diets with his phenomenal course which is no longer in
print. But lucky for you, I've made a copy of his Training
diet available to all those who sign up on my newsletter list, which
I pack full of Scarlet Macaw training tips and information.
Step #3 -- Start trick training your Scarlet Macaw!
The beauty of trick training is that if your Scarlet Macaw has
already developed biting problems and you're afraid to touch him,
you can still train him tricks through the bars of his cage and
remain out of reach of that powerful beak.
This allows you to
teach your Scarlet Macaw how to follow instructions, learn to
use toy parrot props and opens
him up to a whole new world of communication with you that he's
never known.
With trick training
your Scarlet Macaw will finally realize that there is a way to
communicate between himself and you. And it's this simple
act of following commands and instructions that never fails to see
an immediate improvement in most Scarlet macaws behavior-- no matter
how mean they used to be.
You can find trick
training information all over the place, but again, I recommend
picking up a copy of Chet Womach's information because he actually
created a course where you get to watch
Macaws, along with several
other breeds of parrots, during first time training sessions.
Meaning that you get
to see Chet overcome a Scarlet Macaws unwillingness to train,
see how he gets around each birds quirky issues, and how he ALWAYS
ends up getting the bird to obey -- all with positive reinforcement!
